HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2006 BUENOS AIRES MEETING (Twenteeth Plenary)
CEOS meets in Plenary annually, with activities and coordination occurring
throughout the year. The Chair of CEOS rotates each year at the Plenary
meeting, The 20th CEOS Plenary was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, November
14-15, 2006, CEOS Principals discussed the major events and accomplishments
during 2006. Notably, the 20th Plenary:
- Endorsed the Space Technology Research Institute of Turkey (Tubitak-Uzay) to become a member of CEOS
- Commended efforts made by CEOS agencies to ensure that CEOS is viewed as
the space segment of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS)
- Developed response to GEO 2006 Work Plan
- Endorsed continuing development of CEOS Implementation Plan
- Developed response to the GCOS Implementation Plan and made presentation at the Conference of the Parties (COP-12) meeting
- Developed CEOS Constellation concept scoping papers for land surface imaging, ocean surface topography, atmospheric composition, and precipitation
- Endorsed creation of a new position, CEOS Executive Secretary, in charge of coordinating the CEOS Secretariat
- Developed initial terms of reference for the CEOS Executive Secretary
- Presented the conclusions of the CEOS related radio frequency issues report with respect to the use of space frequencies for earth observations
- Endorsed Changyong Cao (NOAA) as new WGCV Chair. Thanked Stephen Ungar for his service as WGCV Chair
- Endorsed Pascal Lecomte (ESA/ESRIN) as new WGCV Vice Chair
- Thanked Ernest Hilsenrath (NASA) for his service as WGCV Chair of the Atmospheric Composition SubGroup
- Thanked Sergio Camacho (OOSA) and Maurizio Fea (ESA) for their service in WGEDu
- Confirmed GISTDA Chairmanship for 2009
- Appointed USGS as Chair for 2007
